This research aimed to determine the translation strategies utilized by the translator to translate the idiomatic expressions in the English-Indonesian subtitle of Emily in Paris and their translation qualities, including accuracy, acceptability, and readability using the qualitative method. The data were obtained using documentation and purposive sampling technique by reading the subtitles, marking, categorizing, and selecting the idiomatic expressions in Emily in Paris. All data were analyzed using Mona Baker’s idiomatic translation strategy theory and Nababan’s translation quality assessment theory. The study showed that the translator utilizes using an idiom of similar meaning and form, translation by omission of a play on idiom, translation by omission of entire idiom, and translation by paraphrase strategy. The most utilized translation strategy was translation by paraphrase as it is the most common strategy to translate idiom and is helpful to reproduce the meaning from the source language with simpler expression. The study also indicated the translation quality in terms of accuracy, 15 data were accurate, 3 data were less accurate, and 1 datum was inaccurate. In terms of acceptability, 16 data were acceptable, 1 datum was less acceptable, and 2 data were unacceptable. In terms of translation readability, 17 data were readable, 1 datum was less readable, and 1 datum was unreadable.
