This research is about strategies of metaphor translation and how they
dealt with meaning equivalence applied in the poem entitled The Little Black Boy
by William Blake. The aims of the research are: (1) to find out the strategies of
metaphorical expression in the Little Black Boy poem in source language and
target language. (2) To describe the application of metaphor translation strategies
in the Little Black Boy poem so the translation can deal with meaning
equivalence. Moreover, the researcher presented qualitative method using theories
by Mildred L. Larson and Werner Koller to reach the research objectives. The
results of this research showed that: Firstly, there were four types strategy of
translation metaphor used in source language. However, metaphor translated as
simile and the metaphor maintained by explain the meaning were the most used in
the strategy of translation metaphor. Lastly, meaning equivalences in the
translation consisted of 5 connotative equivalence, 4 formal-aesthetic equivalence,
4 pragmatic equivalence, 3 denotative equivalence. Therefore, connotative
equivalence was the most dealt meaning equivalence. Indeed, there were many
ways to transfer the meaning of metaphor expression. However, using those
theories was impacted to a better acception for all target audiences.
