In this research, the writer focuses on commissive utterance in a study of equivalence translation in the novel of Rain ChudoriSoerdjoatmodjo. The objectives of this research are to describe what types of the commissive utterances in the lines of the novel and to describe how the translation equality of the commissive utterances applied in the novel.
The writer uses a qualitative descriptive method in order to reach the objectives of the research. The writer uses himself as the researcher to collect data; by reading both novels; Indonesian version and English version, marking and classifying the data, furthermore analyzing the selected data based on commissive utterances and equivalence translation which are taken from relevant theories.
Findings, this study show that: first, three types of the commissive utterances, are used in translating the novel, second, find out the equivalence of the translation of the commissive utterances in the novel.
