This research examines the thematic roles in the sentence on the article “Indo-Japan Key
Economic Points“ published January 2017. This is using qualitative methode.
This research aims at describing the thematic roles as in noun phrase construction on the
sentence. The methode is qualitative methode by using library research which is the collecting
data with the steps: (1) reading the article on the newspaper The Jakarta Post, (2) identifying
clause by clause of semantic sentence, (3) classifying every part of sentence in the text, (4)
explaining every term by using thematic roles analysis. In analyzing the data, the thematic roles
is describe by referring to the theory of thematic role based on J. L Saeed.
The result of this reseach shows that there several types of thematic role that follow
thematic role exclude the location and experiencer. The participant that found are agent, theme,
instrument, patient, source, beneficiary, goal.
