This research aims to show the binary opposition between the East and the West and the conformity towards the grand narrative of Orientalism by Edward W. Said. The conformity will demonstrate how the narrator portrays the East as inferior and the West as superior which related to Orientalists idea. The method of the research is using a qualitative descriptive method by identifying, interpreting, and describing sentences through the collected data of the novel. The writer is using the theory of Orientalism by Edward Said to support this research. The result of this research is the emergence of binary opposition between the East and the West which derived from the narrator as the narrative is predisposed to portray West as superior and opposed to portray East as inferior. Moreover, the narrator of this novel is also inclined to the Orientalist thoughts. As a result, the East is described as poor, precarious, and unsettled. Meanwhile, the West is described as reliable and superior. Therefore, all these portrayals will eventually lead to the narrator perspectives that inclined to what Edward Said has stated in his book, that this stereotype stems from Orientalist studies, which have the authority to research the East using the West as a comparison
