White superiority and its ideology in dunkirk movie

No image available for this title
This piece of research focuses on the analysis of how Christopher Nolan’s movie,
Dunkirk, holds a racial issue of whitewash where the movie eliminated the non-white
troops that were supposed to be in Dunkirk, France, during the World War II. Spotting
how the issue lies beneath the film through representation showing that there are only
white-colour troops in the movie is the first step to begin with. Developing this point,
it turns to discuss about what are the white-centric representations shown in the film.
The findings of the representation then leads to white superiority ideology and racism
looked like in the context of what happened during the year the movie was released. In
conclusion, this research will also show how racism persists despite its nearly
universal condemnation by state policy and by the norm of polite society, of how
domination can persist and carry on without coercion through the practice of
whitewash that is rooted in the white superiority
