This research is aimed to identify the types of idiomatic expressions used in the Onward (2020) film and thereafter analyze the accuracy of the translation of idiomatic expressions in the film’s subtitles provided by Disney+ Hotstar. For data collection, a qualitative method is employed, which comprises watching the film, reading the subtitles, and taking notes on the idiomatic expressions used. After collecting the idiomatic expressions, the data are analyzed by applying McCarthy & O’Dell (2002) theory to categorize the idiom types, describes the translation strategy of idiomatic expression based on Baker (2001) theory, then uses Nababan (2008) theory of translation accuracy criteria assessment and Larson (1984) theory of good translation characteristics to analyze the translation accuracy of idiomatic expressions. It can be concluded that the idiom types found in the film are verb, compound, prepositional phrase, and clause. The translator appears to apply idiom usage of similar meaning and form, idiom usage of similar meaning but dissimilar form, paraphrasing, and translation by the omission of the entire idiom in translating the idiomatic expressions. There are two less accurate idioms and five idioms that are not accurately translated, but the overall translation result indicates a good quality translation with the total of 102 very accurate idioms and two accurate idioms.
