This research examines the patriarchal society reflected in the film Mulan. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative by applying characterization by Petrie and Boggs and the concept of patriarchy by Allan G Johnson. It aims to find out how patriarchal society and Mulan as woman in a patriarchal society are reflected in the film. Film Mulan tells about the society that really patriarchal. They really respect men and masculinity values that can only be found in men. Mulan as a woman who is blessed with extraordinary abilities, in fact only places her as a woman who is obedient and keeps the rules in a patriarchal society. The results of the research found that the patriarchal society in the film Mulan is a society dominated by men, both in the public and private spheres. Society also identifies men as strong beings who must have masculinity in themselves so that everything in the social order is always centered on men and their masculinity. The last, society also shows how men are able to control woman's lives. In the end, Mulan as a woman who has extraordinary prowess in patriarchal society just show how obedient she is as a woman, who respects men and also shows that no matter how great woman in the public domain, in the end she will stayed in home. In essence, this research found that the film Mulan only shows how powerful men are in a society where all sectors, both public and private, are dominated by men. Mulan's prowess, which is highlighted in the film, ultimately only places herself as a woman who obeys and keeps the rules in a patriarchal society.
