This research intended to find out the translation technique applied in translating
slang and its degree of equivalence in Nerve movie subtitle. This research used
qualitative method in descriptive analysis. By using this method, this research will
identify dialogues that contain slang, analyze the use of translation technique to
overcome the data, and seek the degree of equivalence of the translation. Molina
and Albir’s theory of translation technique and Bell’s theory of equivalence degree
are used in this research. From thirteen selected data in this research, the result
found that five translation techniques are applied; Literal translation (1 data),
Established Equivalent (6 data), Adaptation (3 data), Generalization (2 data) and
Reduction (2 data). The degree of equivalence in this research; Fully Equivalent (10
data) and Partly Equivalent (3 data). It can be concluded that most of the data in
this research are Fully Equivalent.
