This research aims to identify the Good Mother and Bad Mother behavior that is
reflected in a mother character in Us (2019) a horror film directed by Jordan
Peele. The writer uses Sarah Arnold‘s two types of motherhood which is good
mother and bad mother in her book Maternal horror film: Melodrama and
motherhood (2016) to analyze the mother character behavior, Adelaide. In this
film, The mother played a major role in surviving the terrors and horrors from
their tethered that tried to kill them and the writer found that Adelaide is a good
mother because she fulfilled her function as a mother by protecting the child but
she is also a bad mother because she is the cause of the problem in the first place.
Therefore, This film reflects two behaviors of a maternal horror mother in one
main female character as the mother and tends to accentuate one type of behavior
which is the Bad Mother behavior
