This research focuses on the three major characters of gillian flynn’s novel sharp objects; Camille, Adora, and Amma. The novel described them as a mother and daughters. This research emphasizes these characters’ trauma and its relation to their behavior as a mother and daughters seen from Sigmund Freud and Hendrika C. Freud’s theories. A qualitative descriptive method is used in this research in order to analyze the data which was taken from the character's dialogue in the story. The result of this research is that these three major characters suffer from psychoneurosis disorder due to their emotional or affective type of trauma caused by the violence and abuse they received as a child as well as the absence of their father. The use of defense mechanisms as a satisfactory replacement against instincts and impulses the trauma has created serves as the reason why they are being categorized into psychoneurosis disorder. These childhood traumas disturb their sexual development causing them to suffer from phallic fixation for Adora and Camille while Amma suffers from anal fixation. Their trauma also affects their personality development affecting the value of their ego and superego causing them to normalize negative and bad behavior. Moreover, the death of Marian, the beloved child of Adora and the sister of Camille and Amma adds more traumatic memories into their life. Hence, the trauma that these characters experience are mix with their fixation and negative behavior influence their relationship as a mother and daughters.
