This research focuses on child neglect depicted through child character named Richie in the film of wonder wheel (2017) by woody allen. The qualitative descriptive research explained about the acts of neglect experienced by the child
character by using film and character theory by Boggs and Petrie, also child
neglect theory. The research explained about Richie as a kid character who has
been neglected by his parents which showed in the film and define the action of
neglect that he has experienced by using DePanfillis’s child neglect theory. The
way Richie character is treated by his parents then described that Richie has been
neglected. Throughout the film, his role as a kid who likes to set fires and skips
school to watch movies in a theatre lead him to become a big impact to other
characters in the film and the overall plot. The results of the research show that
the child character neglected in emotional and educational factor. Richie then
described to have neglect problem through his role in the film. The major factor of
Richie get neglected is the house environment. Throughout the film, Richie shows
immorality in him as the result of being neglected by his parents
