Trance (2013) film which is directed by Danny Boyle is the unit
analysis of this research. In this research, i use the structural method with
the descriptive analysis. The research is aimed to find Neo Noir contructed
in this film which is revealed through six of genre‘s conventions: setting,
location, iconography, narrative events, character, and plot structure. The
analysis uses genre‘s convention concept proposed by Jane Stokes.
The research finds six conventions of Neo Noir in this film. The
results are the convention in Trance film more dominant contain Neo Noir
elements than psychological thriller. The convention is setting which uses
the city as the background, location which uses abandoned building,
iconography which appears weapon, low-key lighting and deep focus
technique, narrative events which make the storyline being confusing and
there is romantic narration, character who appear; amnesia man and
femme fatale, then flashback plot. These indicate Trance as Neo Noir film.
