This analysis is to identify the issue of identity construction an immigrant
Muslim in Muslim minority country aftermath 9/11 Terrorist Attack. The unit
analysis in this research is Once in a Promised Land novel written by Laila Halaby.
The methodology in this research use qualitative method with descriptive analysis.
The issue of identity construction in the film begins to appear when the main
characters, named Jassim and Salwa, are discriminated by American society.
According to the issue, this research focuses on the strategy which is used by Jassim
and Salwa to resolve their identity problem. Therefore, the researcher uses the
identity concept from Stuart Hall, especially the notion that is arranged by Hall about
the three potential strategies to resolve the identity problem. As a result, the
researcher finds out that Jassim and Salwa used the negotiation and opposition
strategy to resolve their identity problem.
