Illocutionary Act Analysis In The Movie Of How To Train Your Dragon: Hidden World (2019)

This study discusses illocutionary actions that contained in the movie and the
script of How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World, which is a work by Dean
DeBlois. Conversations between characters are studied using John R. Searle’s
theory. The purposes of this research are to analyze the tpyes of acts and see
the direct and indirect uses in this film. For these purposes, the writer collects
the data from both script and movie. The data obtained are then analyzed
qualitatively using speech acts theory by John Searle. The results show that
there are 4 (four) Speech acts produce from forty-seven data. Which contain,
First, twenty-four representative speech of stating, informing, claiming, telling,
believing, asserting and reminding sentences. Second, ten directive speech of
inviting, suggesting, requesting, begging, ordering, advising, demanding, and
asking sentences. Third, four commissive speech of pleding, threatening, and
promising sentences. Last, expressive speech of thanking and expressing
feelings. Also, from the data that had been found before contain forty-five direct
speech and two indirect speech
