The research is conducted to give a description about the issue of lie in
children’s story which appears in The Curious Incident of The Dog in The NightTime Novel by Mark Haddon. Since some researchers focus on Asperger
Syndrome of the main character, Christopher John Francis Boone, the writer
chooses the moral issue in the novel. The writer does the research to analyze how
the issue of lie is described in the novel The Curious Incident of The Dog in The
Night-Time which is categorized as children’s story. The issue of lie is analyzed
carefully and accurately using the principle of Ethical theory by John Stuart Mill;
Act-Utilitarianism to sustain the research and the analysis is conducted toward the
intrinsic elements of children’s story; Plot, Characters, Settings, and Point of
View to know how the issue of lie is described.
Based on the research findings, the writer finds that the concept of ActUtilitarianism is working properly in the story, the consequences of lie in the story
has a great consequence, and it brings happiness of Christopher John Francis
Boone. By seeing this novel as a children’s story, the story is seen from the
children’s eye. Therefore, the principle of Act-Utilitarianism by seeing whether lie
is good or not by its consequences in the story seems disappeared. As a result, the
issue of lie in this children’s story is described as a moral message that teaches
children for being honest and not telling lie to somebody else.
