Conceptual Metaphor On Brexit Topic Articles On Bbc.Com

The aim of this research is to find out the types of the conceptual metaphors
that are used in the Brexit topic articles on BBC.com on March 13th and 24th 2017. It
is a qualitative research used by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson’s Conceptual
Metaphor Theory (1980). The concept of metaphor is elaborated into mappings to see
the relations between the source domain and the target domain to understand the
meaning. From five articles analyzed, there are nineteen data collected by random
sampling that consist of eight structural metaphors, eight orientational metaphors, and
nine ontological metaphors. The mapping processes produce the words and the
sentences easier to understand.
