This research discusses about the use of impoliteness strategies associated with
differences in gender that occur in Whatever podcast conversations. The aims of this
research is to find out the types of impoliteness strategies and gender differences. The data
for this research is taken from Whatever Podcast conversations accessed via YouTube. This
study used the theory of impoliteness developed by Jonathan Culpeper, which divides
different impoliteness strategies into five categories. The categories include bald on record
impoliteness, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, sarcasm or mock politeness,
and withhold politeness. Furthermore, this research aims to determine the influence of
gender differences in the use of impoliteness strategies. This research uses qualitative
descriptive research method to analyse the impoliteness strategies used by the speakers in
the Whatever podcast. The result of this research showed that the Whatever podcast
speakers employed a wide range of impoliteness strategies. Furthermore, this study also
found that women more often use impoliteness strategies when speaking. It can be
concluded that women are more dominant in using impoliteness strategies compared to
men.
