The persistent problem of white supremacy cannot be ultimately resolved because it leads to many inhumane actions that cause anguish, particularly for black people. Thus, resistance must be undertaken to control and end it. Not only males are required to fight, but women can also serve as the forefront of the resistance. This thesis discusses the portrayal white supremacy and black women's resistance in the Harriet movie. The aim of this study is to examine the portrayal of white supremacy in the film Harriet and how enslaved black women respond to it. The researcher employs qualitative descriptive method and George M. Fredrickson's concept of white supremacy and Patricia Hill Collins' theory of black women's resistance. The findings show that white supremacists’ attitudes, ideologies, and policies serve as the foundation for the resistance of black women. Through instilling a vile and wicked ideology that degrades the social standing of black people, it shapes their attitudes to commit dehumanizing violations and enactment of the policies that support and protect their vicious treatment under the law. Slaves must resist these acts of enslavement by developing consciousness and standpoint to ensure they will survive in their encounters of different ways of white supremacy and to attain a life of freedom and prosperity. With this consciousness, slaves can undergo personal shifts and acquire unique intelligence over plotting their escape and finding safe place. Furthermore, standpoint plays a role in the resistance to white supremacists because not only is it self-defined, but also form a collective standpoint by sharing experiences with others and receiving community support.
