This thesis explains the Appraisal devices in Chris Wallace's Exclusive
'Fox News Sunday, November 18, 2018' Interview with President Trump on Fake
News and Freedom of The Press by applying theory developed by J.R. Martin and
P.R.R. (2005). The relationship between the American media and the president
has long been symbiotic or mutually necessary, although at times it may seem
contradictory. But since President Donald Trump stepped into the White House,
the relationship has become practically hostile. Recently, there has been a clash
between Donald Trump clashed with Jim Acosta After that, The White House
boycotted the access of renowned media journalists from the United States, CNN
to cover there. After several weeks of the incident, Chris Wallace, a Fox’s News
reporter had the opportunity to interview Donald Trump in a special segment. In
this interview, Chris Wallace reiterated Trump's problems with Jim Acosta and
several questions regarding the freedom of media journalists and what Trump's
tweet on Twitter meant that the media was the big enemy of American society. In
this case we can see Appraisal on how Trump responded to his interview with
Wallace and whether Wallace positioned himself more toward Jim Acosta as a
sense of solidarity or positioned himself as a journalist from the media that Trump
likes. The writer found 47 system which is consist of 17 attitude, 27 engagement,
3 graduation. From interview between Wallace and Trump, the main Appraisal
resources used is engagement while judgement less dominant
