This research in this paper aims to find out the faithful translation in two
of Lang Leav Poems and to analyzed the acceptability of literary works in
poems First Love and Souls and translated into Indonesia by M.Aan Mansyur
become Cinta Pertama and Jiwa. The researcher used qualitative method in which
the researcher describes the method of translator to transfer the poetry from
English into Indonesian and componential analysis based on Peter Newmark’s
theory about faithful translation and criteria of translation assesment by Nababan.
Furthemore, based on the analysis, the researcher found 12 of 14 lines in two
poems are faithful translation because the grammar and meaning are used by the
translator to represent what the writer SL feels about something. Moreover, a line
in the SL and the TL identify as the expressive and aesthetic function, so they do
not need any responses from the writers about the poems (First Love and Cinta
Pertama) and that (Souls and Jiwa). And than, based on Nababan’s translation
assesment, this research finds 10 of 14 data are Acceptable, and 4 of them are
Quite acceptable. The acceptable ones which are translated using this faithful
theory, the quite acceptable ones are the ones which are translated using semantics
and word-for word method.
