The study entitled Features of Women’s Language on Thoraya Maronesy’s
Youtube Videos aims to identify the linguistic features of women’s language in
the youtube videos and to describe the way women and men in the youtube videos
use features of women’s language.
The source of data in this study are videos
from Thoraya Maronesy’s youtube channel. The data are analyzed descriptively
by using Robin Lakoff theory on features of women’s language. Lakoff argues
that women’s language has 10 features but this study only adopted 7. Found 7
features of women’s language used by 47 women from total 52 women and 4
features of women’s language used by 21
men from total 43 men. Those features
are Lexical Hedges (29),
Empty Adjectives (10), Intensifiers (25), Emphatic Stress
(4), Rising Intonations (2), Avoidance of Strong Swear Word (6), and Super Polite
Form (2). features that used by men are Lexical Hedges(12), Intensifier (13),
Empty Adjectives (2), and super polite form (3). Meanwhile, three feature of
women’s language which did not occur in these videos is Hypercorrect Grammar,
Tag Question, and
Precise Color Term.
