The purpose of this research are to find out the type of code switching pattern on
several interview videos taken from Meletop channel and to find out the reason of
the speakers did code switching on the interviews. This study applies the theory of
Muysken and Bullock about code switching pattern and Grosjeean’s theory about
code switching reason. By using qualitative method, the writer chose and read the
transcription of the videos, and annotated the sentences that contained code
switching into the data card. After collecting data, the writer analyzed the data
used structural approach to find the pattern of code switching and sociolinguistic
approach to find out the intention of speakers did code switching during the
interviews by classifying them. As the result, from three videos code switching
was happened about 117 times during three interviews within different speakers.
However, all the pattern of code switching applied in the videos which are
insertion, alternation and congruent lexicalization. Furthermore, the most used
reason of the speakers did code switching mostly because of certain notion.
Meanwhile, filling linguistic gap and communicative strategy are seldom used by
the speaker.
