Massive translation researches discussed translation strategy including
proper name. Considering proper name was one of interesting object to be
discussed, this research was about analysing the types of proper name and the
translation strategy of proper name in an English-Indonesian Novel Harry Potter
and The Chamber of Secret. The aims of the research were: (1) Categorizing the
types of proper name. (2) Identifying the translation strategy of proper name in
English-Indonesian Novel Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secret. Furthermore,
this research applied qualitative method and
used theories by Peter Newmark and
Lincoln Fernandes to answer the research questions. From 24 proper names, the
result showed that: Firstly, there were six types of proper name in source language.
Nevertheless, the most frequent type was addressing name. There were 7 proper
names typed as addressing names, 4 typed as geographical names, 4 typed as
newspaper and journal name, 2 typed as institutional name, 3 were literary figures,
and 4 were object name. Secondly, there were 4 strategies, copy strategy,
rendition strategy, addition strategy and re-creation strategy. However, copy and
rendition were the most strategy applied. 12 proper names used copy strategy, 9

used rendition, 2 used addition and 1 used recreation.
