The Construction Of Islamic Image In The Dictator Film

No image available for this title
The media often constructs the image of Islam as a violent religion, associating it with
terrorism. This research aims to analyze the construction of Islamic image in the film The Dictator
(2012) through satirical humor and to provide deeper insights into how films shape and reproduce
social perceptions of certain religious image. The study applies Jean Baudrillard's theory of
simulacra, using a qualitative method with descriptive analysis to explore the findings. The data
analyzed includes dialogue and selected scenes from the film. The result show that the film
constructs an image based on stereotypes commonly held by Americans about Arabs and Islam,
depicting them as womanizers, murderers, sex maniacs, bad leaders, terrorists, and bombers of
public transportation. The film exploits the West’s fears and misunderstandings of Islam to create
humor, but this humor reinforces stereotypes and contributes to a misinformed view of Muslim.
