The United States has a history for dealing with racial issues. However, as time goes
by, anti-racism emerges. Race is a film that depicts certain white characters that have
compassion for each other without concern for race or skin color. This research focuses
on the analysis of anti-racism by white characters towards main black character Jesse
Owens in the film Race (2016). The researcher uses the qualitative method and data
descriptive analysis technique to discover the findings. This research intends to analyze
the anti-racism behavior through actions, beliefs, movements and utterances in Race
film using the anti-racism theory by Alastair Bonnet (2000) as the main theory. In order
to support the main theory, racism theory by James M Jones (1997) and film theory of
David Bordwell and Kristina Thompson (2019) are used in order to show an evidence
of anti-racism behavior. The result of this research discovers that many racisms
behavior in 1930s era in United States and Germany in the context of Summer
Olympics Berlin 1936. Moreover, an anti-racism in this film portrayed by the white
characters such are Larry Snyder, Avery Brundage, and Luz Long through the actions,
beliefs, movements, and utterances. These characters are courageous enough to declare
their actions and opinions in order to fight racism such as individual racism, cultural
racism, and institutional racism. They believe that everyone has the same right and
deserves to be treated equally in all aspects of life, especially in the Summer Olympic
context.
