This research explores the meaning of symbols in anti-sexual harassment
campaign posters on Amplifier organization website and the ideology represented
in the posters. The research approach is qualitative with a descriptive case study.
The ideology is seen through the lens of the ideological level from John Fiske’s
popular culture theory. Then, the symbols are analyzed through the semiosis
process from Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotics theory. The organization has 83
posters in the “Hear Our Voice” chapter, but only 10 data met the research
requirement. The findings reveal that the ten campaign posters highlight the idea
of feminism effectively. The message includes encouraging education, ceasing
victim-blaming and patriarchal chains, investing in self-love and self-quality,
enforcing gender equality and political justice, involving women in decision-
making, and empowering women. These messages prove that the poster-makers
are not only activists but also feminists. Through symbols and representations of
feminism ideology, these posters build awareness of social issues and demonstrate
the power of visual art in creating social change.
