Code-switching, the activity of switching between languages while communicating, is a
successful approach for expressing cultural identity and establishing connection. One of the content
creators on digital platforms such as YouTube code-switch to reflect their cultural background, engage
with the guests, and preserve authenticity. This study aims to examine cultural background serves to
motivate people to code-switch in The Indah G Show, a YouTube podcast series with multilingual
participants. Using a qualitative, explanatory case study method based on John W. Creswell’s method,
the study examines how speakers switch language to express inclusivity and solidarity. The findings
reveal that English native speakers often switch to Indonesian to foster inclusivity and solidarity with
Indonesian speakers, while Indonesian native speakers switch to English to align with their English
speaking counterparts and demonstrate adaptability. These patterns highlight the role of code-switching
as a means of bridging cultural divides and strengthening interpersonal connections in multicultural
contexts. This study underlines the importance of cultural background in shaping code-switching and
offers insights for understanding language switching in digital platform.
