Challenging female gender stereotype in little women (2019) film

No image available for this title
The research on the film Little Women (2019) highlights the existences of
gender stereotypes in society and explores the efforts of Jo March, Meg March, and
Amy March to challenge these stereotypes. The film defies conventional gender
roles and presents the March sisters as complex characters who break free from
societal norms, emphasizing the importance of women independence and pursuit of
personal goals. The findings reveal that Little Women depicts women's strategies
to resist female gender stereotypes. The researcher found four points regarding
gender stereotypes: married as ultimate goal, roles and duties centered in the
household matters, attractive women, dependency of women to men's money. The
conclusion is that Jo March, Meg March, and Amy March, face gender stereotypes
in their own ways. They challenge gender stereotypes in their own unique way,
demonstrating that women can lead fulfilling lives, pursue their dreams, and assert
their autonomy in a society that often seeks to confine them to narrow gender roles
and expectations.
