This study examines the depiction of power dynamics in The Trial of The Chicago 7 focusing on the unequal relationship between the Nixon-era government and the Anti-Vietnam War Social Movement, through the lens of Michel Foucault's theory of power relation and the resistance typology by Jocelyn A. Hollander and Rachel L. Einwohner. The research meticulously analyses the film and its script, pinpointing expressions of power exerted by government figures and corresponding acts of resistance within the narrative. The analysis identifies two primary facets of governmental power: 1) Government Officials and. Anti-Vietnam War Movement, highlighting five instances where governmental authority sought to suppress the movement's influence and morale; and 2) Law Enforcement and Security Parties and. Anti-Vietnam War Movement, revealing three instances of law enforcement's role in reinforcing governmental dominance. The study shows that government often exploited its power to weaken the anti-war movement's resolve, aiming to intensify the Vietnam War conflict. Furthermore, the research classifies the resistance depicted in the film into various categories: nine instances of overt resistance, three of target-defined resistance, one of external-defined resistance, one of attempted resistance, and two instances of missed opportunities for resistance. Through this analytical framework, the research elucidates the intricate interaction between power and resistance as portrayed in The Trial of The Chicago 7 offering deeper insights into the strategic confrontations between the government and antiwar activists.
