This study aims to examine the depiction of identity crisis in the movie He's All
That. The problem of identity crisis in the movie will be the object of discussion
in this paper. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive
design. The theory used to assist this study is Erik Erikson's Psychosocial theory.
The findings of the study indicate that identity crisis is a major topic in He's All
That, as evidenced by the actions of Padgett Sawyer as the main character. The
movie depicts an identity crisis that occurs in Padgett, the process of her
confusion in finding her role in society and how the roles of the people around her
influence the discovery of a teenager's identity, the role of parents and the
environment. This study reveals examples of identity crisis behavior through
Padgett Sawyer's actions and language in the movie, that she experiences an
identity crisis at stage 5 in Erikson's theory, namely the "Identity vs Role
confusion" stage, where she is confused about finding her role in society due to
the loss of the role of her father in her family, incomplete parents and parenting
errors by her parents. This study also shows a depiction of the impact of the
identity crisis that occurs and is experienced by the main character. Starting from
the negative impact, how she feels losing her self-confidence to the positive
impact, she finds her identity and the good people around her. This study helps
deepen our understanding of how movies can reflect issues of identity crisis in
adolescents. By analyzing the identity crisis in the movie He's All That, this study
highlights how movies can reinforce established beliefs about social identity
crises.
