The problem of stereotypical process towards Eastern has become commonly
represented in the Western media, especially movies. This study investigates how
the Western media portrayed the aspect of oriental in the movie of "Dune: Part
One". This study uses descriptive qualitative method. Furthermore, this study
primarily uses the Orientalism theory as the base of analysis while also uses Film
and Character theory as a supporting theory. The study mainly focuses on analysing
the sub-culture humans of “Fremen” which exemplifies Orientalist tropes. The
result of the analysis challenged the stereotypical characteristics of Orientalism of
exotic, inferior, backward, and dangerous are indeed portrayed in the film of Dune:
Part One.
