Discrimination in michael gracey’s the greatest showman (2017) film

This research studies about discrimination in Michael Gracey's The Greatest Showman (2017) film by using qualitative method and descriptive analysis technique. The analysis is aimed to find out types of discrimination in Michael Gracey's The Greatest Showman through the characters and to analyze the relationship between characterization and acts of discrimination in Michael Gracey's The Greatest Showman. The discrimination issues are raised by using Thomas F. Pettigrew discrimination theory. However, there is also a theory namely character theory by Joseph M. Boggs and Dennis W. Petrie to strengthen the research. The results of the study show that the researcher found two types of discrimination act in 33 data with a percentage of 89% direct discrimination and 4 data with a percentage of 11% indirect discrimination. The most data found in this study is direct discrimination with a percentage of 89% and the lowest is indirect discrimination with 11% data. After that, it can be concluded that there are direct and indirect discrimination through categorization of character which are the actors and victims of discrimination, The character category in The Greatest Showman is true but not absolute, because there are characters who can be included as actors and victim of discrimination as well
