Renata Leoni Nasti - Personal Name
The purpose of this research is to analyze social criticism by looking at the social conditions of Pakistani society and the problems experienced by its characters, which are reflected in the memoir In the Name of Honor by Mukhtar Mai. This study uses the sociology of literature as its approach with the theory of Alan Swingewood by looking at the depth to which literary works can reflect a society. The data source in this study is a memoir entitled In the Name of Honor by Mukhtar Mai. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. Based on the analysis, this study shows that the author opposes the reality of Pakistani society life by conveying forms of criticism consisting of: 1) social criticism of patriarchal society and the condition of women, 2) social criticism of gender-based violence, 3) social criticism of the marriage system, 4) social criticism of custom and the judicial system. In addition, this research finds that social criticism is a form of message and protest conveyed by the author against the destructive systems in Pakistani society.
