Representation of tomboyism in vanellope’s in ralph breaks the internet film

This research examines representation of tomboyism by the female character Vanellope in the film entitled Ralph Breaks the Internet by Rich Moore. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative applying the concept of Representation by Stuart Hall and the concepts of tomboyism. This study aims to find how the female character that represent tomboy is described in the film. Moreover, it is to show how the character has some particular tomboy characteristics such as ambitious, active, courageous, wild and brave. Her tomboy identity appears as a self-defense, as Craig and LaCroix stated that one of tomboy identity functions is as protective identity. She experienced violence in the society as the effect of gender discrimination, considered being subordinated and being rejected and bullied by social. The results show that her tomboyism appear to hide something behind such as unpleasant past to fights for her rights as a greatest racer and activated her female masculinity.
