This study examines gender discrimination and resistance in Kalynn Bayron's novel
Cinderella is Dead (2020), a reimagining of the Cinderella fairy tale. Employing a
descriptive qualitative approach with documentation as the primary method, the analysis is
grounded in Mansour Faqih's gender discrimination theory. The findings unveil various
forms of gender discrimination prevalent in the novel, encompassing marginalization,
subordination, stereotypes, violence against women, and job segregation. These
manifestations underscore the profound gender disparities ingrained in the society depicted
in the narrative. The novel presents characters who steadfastly confront gender
discrimination, challenging the established authority of men. Their acts of defiance serve
as symbols of resilience and the unwavering commitment to achieving justice and gender
equality in an oppressive setting. Furthermore, Cinderella is Dead underscores the
significance of individual agency in the fight against discrimination. The characters employ
diverse strategies and contributions, emphasizing that collective efforts are instrumental in
dismantling deeply ingrained biases. In summary, this study delves into the multifaceted
exploration of gender discrimination and resistance within the pages of Cinderella is Dead.
It resonates with the ongoing struggle for gender equity, highlighting the persistent need
for societal transformation and the realization of gender equality.
