British-Pakistani In Novel: Influence Of Hegemony To- Ward Subaltern In Kamila Shamsie’s Home Fire

In this research, the writer analyzes a novel by Kamila Shamsie named
Home Fire. This research is aim to describe how Shamsie depicting Pakistani liv-
ing in British. Shamsie offers the relation of Pakistani-British Hegemony and
Subalternity, and how their identity as Pakistani related to their status. Hegemony
represented by Karamat Lone and Subaltern represented by Isma and Aneeka Pa-
sha. Writers use Gramsci’s Theory of Hegemony as base theory which supported
by concept of Subaltern. The research concluded that Shamsie using irony to rep-
resent Karamat Lone because of his identity, and Shamsie challenge the idea of
Subalternity through interaction between Karamat Lone and Isma Pasha.
