This research discusses about the domestication and foreignization which originate from the word culture in the translated novel Sang Pemanah (The Archer) by Rosi L. Simamora. Data were analyzed using Newmark's theory which categorizes each type of cultural term. Data were collected by reading the original and translated novels, underlining cultural terms and giving interview to translator to determine the validity of the data. There are 12 data on cultural terms found in the novel, which include ecology, material culture, social culture, gestures and habits. The data is then applied using Judicakaite’s theory. The research findings show that domestication ideology is more often used by translator. In identifying domestication and foreignization, it was found that translator used cultural equivalence techniques, translation by more concrete words, naturalization and globalization. The acceptability assessment shows 10 acceptable data and 2 less acceptable data which refers to the quality of Nababan's acceptability assessment. In conclusion, this study reveals that domestication is often used and chosen by translator as a bridge to make it easier for readers to understand the meaning of cultural terms and maintain the meaning of local wisdom
