This research aims to find out about sexuality and resistance
through the main character as a sex slave in The Handmaid's Tale
novel. The writer uses qualitative descriptive analysis of the study and
the concepts of second sex and sexual politics by Simone de Beauvoir
and Kate Millet as basic theories. The writer uses the data through
symbols, values, and narration through the main character. The results
are according to the concept of the second sex, where Offred's
sexuality is the other in the Handmaid's Tale novel. Offred had not
owned her sexuality because of her husband's oppression and was
disgusted to see her body through the symbolism of her head cover
and red robe as slave. Offred use head covered and a red robe for her
duties. Based on the concept of sexual politics, Offred resists the
oppression of her sexuality. First, an arbitrary character appears to
avoid punishment by lie and trick her husband into believe in her.
Second, she represented sexual androgyny by hide smoke, alcohol,
and having sex with her boyfriend. Third, Offred has paradoxes in
herself and does not trust anyone believes in her decision and action.
