In this study, the writer is interested in linguistics, specifically the role of euphemism in political section of The Jakarta Post published in March 2020. The research objectives are as follows (1) to ascertain the type of euphemism employed by the article writers; and (2) to ascertain the meaning of euphemism words or phrases employed in political section articles. The writer employs a qualitative descriptive method to achieve the research objectives. Reading articles, marking euphemism words and phrases, classifying, selecting, and analyzing them based on sociolinguistic, semantic, and euphemism theories gleaned from relevant references, the writer gathers data. The findings of this study show that: circumlocutions, understatements, metaphor, and overstatement are the four types of euphemism found on the collected data. Second, the purpose of the euphemism in this study are sweet talking and smoothing the word. Euphemism in the political article is used as the alternatives for expression that the writer preferred not to be used on a certain occasion. Euphemisms can also be used to inform readers about an issue that is being avoided due to an unpleasant fact. As a result, the authors of the newspaper must save the face of some important people from embarrassing events or issues
