The main character in the movie Enemy, Adam Bell & Anthony Claire, are the center of this thesis. The purpose of this research is to examine how the main characters' personality disorders are represented in terms of characterization, anxiety, and defense mechanisms. This study uses Petrie W. Dennis and Joseph M. Boggs' characterization and Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis, as well as descriptive analytical methodology to analyze the data. The information is obtained from the movie's narrative screenplays pictures. From the analysis of this movie, the writer concludes that the main characters are the same person with two different personalities, however, it is not shown explicitly in the movie. Adam and Anthony were pictured as if they had a different life, with different jobs and partners. However, their lives start to intertwine from the moment Adam made contact with Anthony. Based on the research findings, the writer finds that the main character are split into two personalities, and is suffering a disorder called Dissociative Identity Disorder. The Anthony character is just another side of Adam’s personality. However, in the movie they are portrayed as two different persons. The writer also finds that the main characters are suffering anxieties, and using some form of defense mechanism in order to avoid pain.
