The objective of this research is to find out how the unit shift occurs in the translation and analyzing the equivalence between the source and target language. The theory that used in this research is based on translation shift by J.C Catford and Nida’s theory of equivalence. This research is conducted upon unit analysis, a novel by Enid Blyton, The Famous Five: Five Have Plenty of Fun and the translated novel, titled Lima Sekawan: Menyamarkan Teman. The researcher used the descriptive qualitative method to get the objective of the research, by reading and comparing both English as the source language and Indonesian as the target language, then marking and classifying where the unit shift occurs in translation and explain the occurrence of unit shift in the data analysis. The types of unit shifts found in the translation of The Famous Five: Five Have Plenty of Fun are shift from morpheme to phrase, morpheme to word, phrase to word, word to phrase, phrase to morpheme, and morpheme to sentence. The researcher also explained how a unit shift occurs in the translation and analyze the equivalence.
