This research discusses the shifting role of women taken by male in Interstellar film. This research aims to show how the loose gender role reflects male domination. To achieve the purpose of the research, the writers explore the relation between male masculinity and domesticity in the dystopian society reflected in the film. By using descriptive-qualitative method and gender role theory by Lindsey, it is found that male in Interstellar can do both domestic and public roles, nowadays known as ‘new father.’. The role of women stereotypically nurturing is not depicted in the Interstellar. When male enter the domestic role, they still maintain the masculine stereotypes. In conclusion, Interstellar emphasizes on male domination when both domestic and public sphere are taken by male, and the dominance in both chores creates hegemonic masculinity.
