The Semantic Method To Deal The Implicit Meaning Translation On Novel A Walk To Remember By Nicholas Sparks

This study aims to identify and describe the type of implicit meanings that are
found in both novels. And, also the way of the translator translates implicit meaning
considering to the target language. The limitation of the discussion focuses on words,
phrase, and sentences that found in the source language text and its translation. The
theories are used to supporting analysis of this study proposed by Mildred. Larson
(1998), based on his theory, there are three types of implicit meaning in translation
they are implicit referential meaning, implicit organizational meaning, and implicit
situational meaning. The research method used in this study is the descriptive
qualitative method. The data are collected from English Novel entitled A Walk to
Remember as the source language and its Indonesian translation Kan Ku Kenang
Selalu as the target language. For the further explanation, the researcher also uses
several theories to support analysis the data which are semantic translation method by
Newmark‟s theory, and the theory of references from Halliday & Hassan (1976).The
research finding from this analysis, the researcher has found five implicit referential
meaning, four implicit organizational meaning, and nine implicit situational
meaning. For implicit referential meaning, they are personal, demonstrative, and
comparative referent. Implicit organizational meanings are passive construction and
substitution word. Lastly, implicit situational meaning caused by the relationship
between speaker-addressee, place and time, cultural background, and symbolic in
action.
