The analysis unit of this research is Zain Bhikha‘s lyric entitled: ―Dare to
Believe‖ and ―First We Need the Love‖ and ―Our Word‖. ―Dare to Believe‖ was
published in 2017 and ―First We Need the Love‖ was published in 2010 and ―Our
Word‖ was published in 2010. This research is focused on understanding
meanings of the Zain Bhikha‘s lyric entitled ―Dare to Believe‖ and ―First We
Need the Love‖ and ―Our Word‖ through its imagery and figurative language. The
purpose of this research is to understand the imagery and figurative language in
the lyrics of ―Dare to Believe‖ and ―First We Need the Love‖ and Our Word‖ This
research uses the qualitative method to answer the research questions and to get
the objectives of the research.
The result of this research is: the theme of ―Dare to Believe‖ lyric is life
problem and love. This lyric tells about the girl who is in misery because of her
problem. Dare to believe is showed to people to be courageous enough to help
those in need and ―First We Need the Love‖ lyric can be concluded that the theme
of this lyric is life problem and love. This lyric describes the speaker feeling about
world right now. The speaker describes the world right now is in chaos. The
speaker suggest that we need to love ourselves in order to change the world righ
now to be better. The theme of ―Our Word‖ lyric is mainly about human living
empty lives because of war. These lyrics tell about human right now live in chaos.
It is all happened because of war that is started by the human themselves. Both of
the Zain Bhika‘s lyrics above have social problem and love themes. Theme is not
explicitly represented in his lyrics, but Zain uses imagery and figurative language
in his lyrics.
