The research aims to discuss about Hollywood’s mis-adaptation on Netflix’s DeathNote which is originated from a Japanese comic (manga). This research employsqualitative analysis method and descriptive analysis technique on film adaptation asthe concept theory. Film adaptation theory by Thomas Leitch concerns on the issue ofadaptation and its discontents. By how Hollywood keeps continuing to adapt Japanesemanga/anime into their own film, the concept of film adaptation has a purpose to helpbetter understanding on how Hollywood does the adaptation and why it often comesinto failure. The result shows that in adapting other’s work and making their own, itneeds fidelity of the original work. However, the value that originally embodies theprevious work is left out and being overlooked. The interest of American in doing theirown Hollywood version of other culture is seen to push their favor in the culturalcommunities through film and refuse to stick on others’. In conclusion, the misadaptationand Americanization of manga continues America’s imperialism to pursueHollywood domination by promoting American ideas, production style, and favoritismtowards America
