This research aims to find out the gender construction through Male and Female character and the gender construction suggest gender equality in On The Basis Of Sex film. The method of the research is qualitative and the type of the research is descriptive. To support the analysis, the writer uses Liberal Feminism theory by Betty Friedan. The use of liberal feminism is because in this theory it focuses on how women and men work together to fight for gender equality. The result of this research in the film is gender construction through female and male characters is caused by the beliefs and culture that have taken root in that year. Society’s trust in patriarchal culture makes Ruth and Martin want to change the wrong system by uphold gender equality. In addition, Feminist reflection can be seen through what Ruth and Martin has done to fight for gender equality, in proving her struggle to fight laws that discriminate on the basis of gender. Therefore, Based on how male characters and female characters interconnected in the film, we can see that there is an gender equality between men and female in this film. This research want to show that the gender equality must be respected and all humans have the same rights and justice. The film On The Basis Of Sex describing that the gender equality is for women and men, not only for women.
