This research aims to know how women bodies in The Hustle (2019) satisfy men
sexual pleasure and how that sexual objectification of women challenge the idea
of female empowerment in the film argued by Rebel Wilson, using the Male Gaze
Theory purposed by Laura Mulvey. Using cinematic features, mise-en-scene
elements and narrative, the result shows that women bodies satisfy the men sexual
pleasure by being the erotic objects and the passive characters. This film is also
placing the men as bearer of the look –those who look but not to be looked at,
which strengthen the argument that in this film, woman only appear as an image
to satisfy men sexual pleasure. Furthermore, that sexual objectification supported
by the story shows that The Hustle (2019) has not completely empowering women
yet, as what argued by Rebel Wilson.
