This study aims to identify the stages of the hierarchy of needs and
motivations of the main character of War Dogs film in meeting their needs. The
method used in this thesis is a qualitative descriptive method. The first step is to
define the data in the film, such as identifying the main character about his needs.
Then the writer uses the concept of American Dreams to determine the correlation
with the hierarchy of needs theory. Then analyze the needs of the main character
using Abraham H. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory. The main character in this
film is a man who wants to be successful and can support his small family named
David Packouz. The American Dream concept pinned on David made him dare to
fulfill his needs by becoming an arms dealer. In addition, the Hierarchy of Needs
theory by Abraham H. Maslow is used to find out what needs have been or will be
fulfilled by David Packouz. Overall, this analysis shows that David Packouz can
almost reach all stages of the hierarchy of needs but later was canceled by his
ambitions that offered by American dreams. The motivation that underlies the
fulfillment of these needs is a better life and economy for his family.
