This research focused on the translation ideology of cultural words in The Hate You Give novel and its translation “Benci Yang Kau Tanam”. The aim of this research is to find out the translation ideology of cultural words based on the ratio of translation techniques found in both novels. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The collected data were categorized by using the cultural category by Newmark and analyzed by Molina & Albir’s theory. Furthermore, the writer determined the ideology concept proposed by Venuti. The data showed that both foreignization and domestication are applied by the translator. The techniques which have a tendency to foreignization ideology are Borrowing (46%), Literal Translation (6%), Calque (4%), while the techniques which tend to domestication ideology are Amplification (12%), Description (4%), Adaptation (4%), and Established Equivalent (24%). Thus, this research concludes that foreignization is the most frequently applied to preserve the original words. While domestication is only used when the words have equal meaning in the target text.
